The app constantly shows "iTunes not playing"
Not working with BIG sur
doesnt work for class lecture audio
This app no longer works if update your Mac software to Catalina. Please send an update.
Doesn't speed up podcast on a mac. Useless.
I used this app every single day! But the app doesnt work with macOS Catalina. Please fix this!
Downloaded and installed and tried it on a personal recording. Worked fine. Nice feature to have with iTunes for personal recordings. The developer will tell you up front it does not work with DRM content such as Audible books or Apple Music. There was no cost.
Doesnt work on os Catalina
So happy with this app. I regularly transcribe itunes audio files for publication, and Speed-up has made this process so much more smooth and easy. Thanks!!
Was working GREAT until macOS Catalina, but now doesn't seem to interact with iTunes anymore :(
Listening to a podcast that is not an Amazon Audible one and it doesn't work :( Podcast: The Herd
sound is choppy, stopped working after a few minutes. Then, they want you to pay money. I uninstalled and will use something else.
Very helpful! Needed to listen to a book by tomorrow -- did it in almost half the time. Thanks so much!
Doesn’t work at all :(
This is a great app, and I still use it every day. The only way I've found to play Podcasts at a faster speed in iTunes on my Mac. However, when listening to a Station, and when the current episode ends, if you have the audio sped up then iTunes is not recognizing that the episode has ended and won't move to the next episode. There is also an issue when seeking forward or backward and getting about 5 seconds or so, multipled by your speed multipler, of no sound. Overall, though, I definite love the app and feel it is worth having, but if those issues could be fixed it would definitely be a 5 star app.
THis is a perfect little application for a feature which should be on iTunes. I am so grateful to the developers for offering something so useful. I with it were available for the iphone and iPad.
This app is an elegant solution for a problem Apple has fixed on the Iphone yet continues to ignore on Mac. Playback speed is easily changed and hot keys are easily set. The preferences are quick to navigate and the option to show in the top bar and hide in the dock is a very appreciated addition. All in all does what it says it will for every file that isn’t DRM protected, which they make clear in the description.
This significantly reduces the quality and volume, rending the podcast unlistenable. High frequency tones like S, TH and F are garbled, making most words very difficult to understand. Also the mids and bass are very cut, which frankly hurts the ears. Totally useless app.
If you are trying to speed up playback of Audible books played in iTunes, this app doesn’t work. It will cut out your audio all together. I didn’t see anywhere on the app description where it has a caveat that it’s not suitable for Audible format. Seems the developer ought to consider putting that disclaimer in the description.
Amazing! Works perfectly for listening to lecture podcasts. I was frustrated with QuickTime Player and iTunes being unable to have both these features (skip forward/backward and change playing speed). This app even lets you customize how many seconds to skip and also what hotkey/shortcut for the playing speed, as well as playing speed presets (default is by factor of 0.5x, so 0.5x, 1x, 1.5x, etc.)
It has pitch correction which is nice. $4 seems like a lot for what it is. But there are no other options, so I guess demand is higher than supply.
Having recently gotten into several podcasts, I’ve become dependent on being able to speed them up on my phone and this offers similar functionality within iTunes (rather than having to open each episode invididually via QuickTime)… a great convenience. Not being able to speed up DRM-enabled media is an unfortunate limitation, but this is simple and enabling for heavy podcast (and similar) listeners. Arguably iTunes should have this built-in, but until then—thanks for offering this complementary utility!
Playback doesn’t work for any speed than the usual.
Hi. I love this but I have a lot problems using it. 1. I have to login to icloud every time I open it after upgrade. 2. There’s a “Opening URL” in iTunes that crashes the app. Overall, it works only half the time.
Most audiobooks are too slow at 1.0 and too fast at 1.50. They really need a 1.25 option.
Very disappointed that there are only a few fixed speed values, not a continuous setting.
The ONLY way this works is if you DOWNLAOD the entire podcast episode and listen to it that way; it does not work when STREAMING podcasts. I spent a long time trying to figure out why it wouldn’t play, and I didn’t see those instructions ANYWHERE on their site. When you download a podcast episode and listen to it using this app, you hear what sounds like TWO COPIES playing at the SAME TIME. It is VERY distracting and is NOT AT ALL like the speed up function in the Podcast app in iTunes. I sincerly hope that Apple builds faster playback for podcasts in the new version of iTunes, this is a POORLY MADE work around that BARELY does what it says it will do.
I can’t get it to work with audio books in iTunes either from Audible or not.
Currently this app is working for me…. mostly. I’m using iTunes 12.3 and on my mp3 audiobooks it usually works. It’s a little strange or echoey at times, but I get used to that pretty quickly. However, when playing multiple tracks, when one track ends, as it starts the next track there’s often a little weirdness, some repeated and indecipherable words. This Speed-Up app is currently my favorite as it stays playing in iTunes (versus some alternatives that use QuickTime instead — google for itunes script applescript for playback speed to check them out).
I really like Speed-Up! Like rvncto said, it is not a separate app, it adds additional features to iTunes, and that’s exactly what I was looking for. I want my podcasts and audiobooks on my Mac’s iTunes to sync with my IOS devices while being able to play them at higher speeds. I heard a small amount of choppiness at 2.0x, but I didn't hear it at 1.75x. Using Preferences for Speed-Up, it allows you to select any speeds, from .25x to 3.0x to show up on the drop down menu. Also, it lets you select either, Podcasts, Music & Audiobooks, or both, in the Preferences. It also lets you to reset playback speed, or not, when you change songs. To me, Speed-Up does everything it says it does, and more.
This app hasn’t been updated since 2013, but luckily Apple hasn’t changed much since then and thus its working on my 2015 MBPr w/ 10.11 El Capitan It works surprising well and integrates with iTunes without any issues. Thanks for letting me listen to my podcasts at my choice of speeds! (x.25-x3.0)
I bought this app to listen to podcasts. The app does what it says, speeds up playback, however the quality of the audio is awful. As others have stated, there is an echo even at the 1.5 rate. Not sure if I will continue using the app because even trying to adjust with the equalizer the sound is quite annoying.
Using this app to speed up a lecture on iMac. Works well at 1.5s, but really needs 1.25x and 1.75x playback options. It depends on the speaker if 1.5x gives intelligible playback.
I am the perfect audience for this app. I listen to audio (podcasts or audiobooks) ALL THE TIME and speeding it up will save me a ton of frustration! I normally listen on my phone but wanted to listen on my computer as well so I figured I’d give Speed-Up a try. Sadly, like other users I am getting a weird echo during playback when I try to speed it up. To be fair, this same problem seems to be present for the Overdrive Media Console App as well. Both offer playback speed adjustment. Both have strange echo in the background. I am assuming that both apps are running into the same backend problem. The problem with Overdrive was what drove me to use Speed-Up as an alternative. I thought I had found the solution, but so far I have been proven wrong. Running on a Macbook Pro OSX 10.9.5 iTunes 12.1.0.50
I would like to clear out the bad reputations this software used to have. As current version - 1.2.3 is working. And a nice and expected feature is that I can define my own speed. Like my favoriate is 1.25x
I have a 2013 mbp. With the latest Yosemite. and iTunes 12.0.1 i see this thing has a lot of 2 and 1 star reviews. And only one review for the latest version. And that review is a bad one. However the description of the functionality fits exactly what i wanted to a tee, that I went ahead and risked the 1.99$ anyway. What i wanted was an addition of functionality to iTunes… not a seperate app. It works exactly as i expected. Basically it allows me to listen to podcasts (which i have downloaded… not streaming) at 1.5 - 2x speed. It is not a seperate app. Its just added functionality to Itunes in an extra playback speed. It is an icon that sits in the task bar (up top) and has a selection of speeds. Thats it. easy peasy. I don’t notice any of the echoing or reverb other people have noted in reviews of earlier versions
I bought this because I saw there were people who claimed this worked for audiobooks. IT DOES NOT. Don’t waste your money on this.
Would be good without playback. PLEASE FIX ASAP!!!
I used this app before for podcasts and now after a few mos. it no longer works. I’ve tried redownloading and nada! Would not recommend it.
Did not work for audible audiobook.
I love it. I need to speed up with my audio lecture and it fit perfect. I would appreciate it if this app support a shortcut to adjust playback speed
I listen to podcasts on my iPhone at 2x and I was looking to emulate that functionality on iTunes. This app works for that purpose …. errr…. kinda. A few things I have noticed: First, when I am listening at a faster speed, it almost sounds like the audio is playing twice in very quick succession. It is not smooth the way that things sound on iOS. Second, if I start opening settings dialogues (or whatever) in iTunes while I’m listening then the audio will keep skippng back by a few seconds for no reason. I say two starts because at the end of the day, the app works … but just barely.
For some reason it will only work when I play music and does NOT work for podcasts (aka audio lectures) which is why I downloaded it.
This app does what it says it will and it does it effectively. That said, I downloaded this to speed up the play-back of my biochem lectures so I wouldn’t have to sit for an entire hour to re-listen to an entire lecture. However, anything faster than 1.75x is choppy and 2x+ is nearly indistinguishable/inaduible. Again, it works perfectly and effectively but just know that there are limits to its power. I really like that the pictch of the professor doesn’t change with speed increase or decrease (I was worried about havign to listen to Alvin and the Chipmunks at increased speeds). I have also played with my music using this app and have been pleasantly amused with the results… of course the humor I find in messing with my music could be the 2am studying binge speaking...
It’s my own fault; it says it right there up top, but I didn’t see it until I paid for it, and now when I try to uninstall the software, it says I don’t have the permissions to delete it. Please put up front, in caps, that it doesn’t work with Audible, because that’s a big motivator to buy this software, since neither Audible nor iTunes works properly with the audiobooks, and I was hoping for something that would work.
Simply put it does ABSOLUTLY NOTHING. I've tried it on 5 different computers and it does NOT work on any of them. *Update: I have since gotten this app to work with a audio book, but the wont do anything when it comes to podcasts. The Developer needs to remove his claims in regards to podcasts from the app description. I have tried this app while listening to dozens of podcasts and it does nothing with any of them. The developer does respond to support requests, but cannot figure out why his own app does not work. From my corispondave I have learned that I have tested his app on more systems then has.
I wrote a previous review, which for some reason never appeared here, reporting this application's failure to work in iTunes 11.1 I also submitted a support request to the publisher. Apparently they listened and acted. All good now.
I love using this app, the update fixed any issues with 11.1 iTunes. I listen to a lot of podcasts and have the ability to speed up the playback saves me a lot of time. One of the best apps I've purchased for music and music playback.
iTunes 11.1 on OSX 10.8.4. The app doesn't do anything once started. When I select a speed other than 1.0 (default), the app icon changes to "Loading…" and never does anything else. It's a nice idea, but doesn't do what it's supposed to do.
